"Gone Like Clementine"

My kids love folk songs.  We have completely absorbed the CD from "I Hear America Singing."  Our two favorite songs are "Git Along Little Dogies" (all the verses) and "Oh My Darling, Clementine" (all the verses you knew, and some you didn't!).  Clementine in particular has become something of a family theme song.  Abigail has even mastered it on the piano, so we hear it day and night... 

A few weeks ago we were having one of those frantic, dramatic searches for something that was lost (a rock? a bracelet? a gum wrapper? I don't remember) when Abby spoke up and moaned, "Oh mom, I just know it's Gone Like Clementine!!!"  Huh?  "You know, lost and gone FOREVER!!!"    And so it began ... Gone Like Clementine, now part of the family lexicon.
